Busy, busy!

It has been a very, very frustrating couple of weeks. I feel like I've done nothing to refresh my soul, and it's all work, work, work around here. I try to remind myself of all the times I'm very happy, and that all things pass. There are happy times, there are frustrating times. But I don't think any of us refresh our souls like we ought to, or our parents wish we would. Don't you think that's true? I hope my children grow up, do their jobs, then come home and paint, or laugh at sitcoms, or go out and dance until they're sweaty. There should be some roundness with our days. Instead, when my 3-year-old wakes me up at 4:00 a.m., all I think is, "Oh, good. There's an extra hour and a half that I can get things done this morning." Bah, humbug. lol - I think that just put me in a better mood. hehe. I'm not really a "Bah, humbug" kind of girl, and now I'm smiling that I even typed it.

I've been working on a scarf with yarn my daughter picked out at our LYS. The last three days, all I'm thinking is, "Man, this is NOT pretty. I don't like this weird beige they threw in here." So I pulled it out to show at my knitting group this morning, and in the bright sun of the room, looking at it with my friends, I realize it's doing this:

Do you see? Yes, it's blurry, but see the argyle effect going on? What a happy discovery! It's criss-crossing with the beige and the blue and all. I like it! I can't even tell you what the name of this yarn is, since I didn't bother to keep the ball band. And I think I must be feeling especially curmudgeonish to knit for three days and not step back and look at what I'm knitting. However, I shall be going back and getting another skein for a scarf for myself. (This one's a gift) Isn't it neat how this argyle pattern works without my knowing anything about it, doing anything special, casting on anyone's suggested amount of stitches? I think that's pretty cool. And my, that beige shows up nicely.

Neat! I made a moebius scarf that came out that way - it looked like plaid. Unfortunately, that was also a gift, so I didn't get to keep it.

Let go Carrie. You'll have more time for yourself if you can say no sometimes and just let somethings go. Clean floors aren't as important as replenishing your soul. No one expects a house with kids in it to be clean.

When I first had my kids my mother-in-law gave me a poem that ended:

"Quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep."

Hey, a silver lining!

Just go with it: you do not have to wear it.

That is such a cool argyle pattern!

I feel the same way you do many times. What helps me (sometimes) is to find something in the day that makes me laugh, a genuine laugh. Laughter really can brighten up the day.

Wow, that yarn looks way different in real life. lol I like the orange that's showing on my screen, but it sure wasn't there this morning. hehe

I do love how the pattern is showing up. The scarf is going to be great.

You'll feel better next week, when the program is over. That's going to be great, too.

lol.....the first thing I thought when I saw that scarf was....what yarn is that? I think it's great. I'm so glad you stepped back to take a good look. (And will you keep the ball band next time around and let us know what it is?)
I hear that about filling your soul. I finally just quit a job (one of four) that was eating mine and I feel so much better. More time to sing and knit and read! Sometimes it's just better to say no than to try and make everyone happy!

How neat! The colors really are pretty.

I know exactly how you feel on the work thing. I think the same way! But you know, every now & then, I say "I'm taking the day off." And I do. It helps a lot!

i love that agryle effect! Very nice!

I miss sleep. I didnt get much when my kids were little, still dont get as much as I'd like.

**and it's not a jury selecetion. I am an actual witness, so they'd be sitting in on the trial- if it's allowed

It's striping really cutely!

Just be thankful for all the labor saving devices we have and take completely for granted....it could be so much worse. What if you had to knit/sew to clothe the kids? And no vacuum cleaners....

Yeah, that never really helps me either, but it's what my mother always tells me.

Wow, that's really cool! And clever too, it's going to make a great scarf. What yarn is it?

Good choice your daughter made.
